The iPad photo booth app for party use should be cheap and short-term
A birthday or house party is one night. You do not need a yearly plan, lead forms or analytics. You need an app that takes a photo on a countdown, adds a frame, and gets the picture to the guest's phone. Short-term billing is the detail to look for. A weekly or monthly plan that you cancel afterward costs less than a year of anything.
The picks below come from published plans read on 3 October 2026. None of the apps was tested hands-on, so treat this as a price and feature check, not a review of how each one feels to use.
Low-cost apps to look at first
Figures as read on 3 October 2026, and they can change.
- Simple Booth Lite: $15/week, bought through the App Store. The vendor lists text, email, QR, AirDrop, WhatsApp, print and gallery sharing on its paid plans. Confirm what the Lite tier includes before the day.
- LumaBooth for Apple: $19.99/month with two devices included. The vendor lists photo, video, GIF, boomerang and green screen, plus sharing by email, SMS, QR code and AirDrop.
- Curator Live Standard: $29 for one event.
- Breeze Booth: a trial with no time limit, but the output carries a watermark. Paid use is $49/month per device.
Whether a free trial is enough for one night
Sometimes. Simple Booth's 7-day trial caps uploads at 15 photos per day, which a party will pass quickly. Breeze Booth's trial watermarks output. If a watermark on every picture does not bother you, a trial can carry a small gathering. Curator Live is one more route: it has a free account with a demo watermark and a 14 day trial without one. Otherwise budget for one week or one month of a paid plan. The free iPad booth app guide lists each trial's limits.
Stand, light, props and prints
The app is only part of the setup. Put the iPad on a stand at about eye level so guests are not looking down. Face the booth away from windows and add a soft light in front of the guests. Keep the iPad on a charger. Leave room for a short queue and keep drinks away from the stand. If children are using it, lower the stand or tilt the iPad.
Physical props such as hats and signs work with any app, since they are in front of the camera. If you want a printed strip to hand out, you need an app that prints and a compatible printer. Check the app vendor's printer list before buying a printer. The iPad booth setup guide walks through the order of steps.
Where MoveBooth fits for a party, and where it does not
MoveBooth is a poor match for most home parties. Its cheapest plan is Lite at $49.99/month. It has no printing, no green screen and no background replacement. Image styles are limited to normal, black and white, or a 3D glitch style. The app is not on the public App Store. The team sends a TestFlight install link on request, which is an extra step for a one-off host.
It does have some party-friendly parts. All plans include stills, GIFs and boomerangs with email and SMS delivery, and the vendor lists built-in templates for unbranded or personal events. A company throwing a staff or customer party, and wanting attendee contacts afterward, is the case where it starts to make sense.
A simple way to decide
Want prints or a green screen: pick LumaBooth or Simple Booth. Want to spend nothing and can live with a watermark: try Breeze Booth's trial. Hosting a company party and want a contact list: look at MoveBooth's Plus plan. Whatever you choose, run a full test the day before. Check three things: the countdown is long enough for a group to get in frame, the frame text is spelled right, and a photo sent from the booth arrives on your phone.
