Cost to start a photo booth business: the prices vendors publish

Cost to start a photobooth business: published hardware and software prices, the cost categories with no fixed price, and the SBA method for adding them up.

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-03

Quick answerThe cost to start a photobooth business depends on booth type. Published prices read today: iPad booth shells at $2,499 and $2,999 without the iPad, and software subscriptions from $17 a month to $399 a month for top tiers. Printer, insurance and license costs vary, so this site gives no single total.

Cost to start a photobooth business: what can and cannot be priced

There is no single cost to start a photobooth business. The total depends on whether you build around an iPad or a camera, whether you print, and what your state and insurer charge. Some parts have a published price. Others do not.

This page lists the prices vendors print on their own pages, as read on 3 October 2026. Prices can change. Where no page was read, the item appears as a category without a figure. This site will not publish a lean or full budget total, because any such number would be a guess.

Booth hardware prices that vendors publish

Two iPad booth shells were read today. Neither includes the tablet.

  • MoveBooth iPad Photo Booth kiosk: $2,499 one-time. Includes the head with a dimmable LED ring, a metal stand, two faceplates, a remote, a rolling flight case and a 1-year limited warranty. iPad not included. Ships to the lower 48 US states, with shipping calculated at checkout.
  • Photobooth Supply Co Salsa 2: $2,999. Includes a soft roller case, power supply and a roamer handle. iPad not included. It needs a separate AirPrint compatible printer if you want prints.
  • Your own stand: MoveBooth says its app works on any iPad with any stand or mount, so a dedicated kiosk is optional. Prices for third-party stands were not read.

Software prices by vendor

Software is the recurring cost. Entry plans often leave out features, so match the plan to the events you sell. The photo booth software cost breakdown goes plan by plan.

  • LumaBooth for Apple or Android: $18/month billed annually, or $19.99 month to month. First two devices included.
  • Touchpix PhotoPass: $22/month, billed annually at $263.94. No video or boomerang on this plan.
  • Darkroom Booth: $295 one-time for Windows, with optional maintenance at $95 per year after the first year.
  • Simple Booth Core: $49/month or $490/year.
  • Fiesta Plus: $59/month, or $49/month billed as $590/year.
  • Snappic Starter: $69/month. 360 and AI effects start at Business, $189/month.
  • MoveBooth: Lite $49.99, Plus $149.99, Pro $249.99 per month. Annual billing is about 17% less. One active iPad booth per license.

Costs with no fixed price

These items belong in the budget, but no figure is given here because none was read from a source today. Get current quotes for each.

  • The iPad, or a camera and computer.
  • A printer plus paper and ribbon, if you sell prints.
  • Backdrop, props and any extra lighting.
  • Transport for the kit.
  • Insurance. The SBA says prices and benefits can vary significantly and advises shopping around.
  • Licenses and permits. The SBA says requirements and fees vary with your activities, location and government rules.
  • Registration, an accountant or lawyer, and marketing, which the SBA lists among common startup expenses.

How to add it up with the SBA method

The U.S. Small Business Administration describes three steps: identify your startup expenses, estimate what they will cost, and add them up. It separates one-time expenses, which are the initial costs needed to start, from monthly expenses. It advises counting at least one year of monthly expenses.

Applied to a booth: put hardware, the tablet or camera, printer, backdrop and registration fees in the one-time column. Put software, insurance, consumables and marketing in the monthly column and multiply by twelve. A subscription that looks small each month is a meaningful line over a year. The step-by-step startup guide shows where this fits.

Ways to limit what you commit up front

You can test the idea before buying a full kit. Trials let you run software on an iPad you already own. Snappic lists a 14-day trial with no card, and Simple Booth a 7-day trial with no card. MoveBooth's 7-day trial needs a payment method and converts to paid unless cancelled.

Renting is another route for corporate work. MoveBooth rents a complete kit from $399 per day on the Lite tier, with shipping extra. A per-day price suits a one-off test more than regular bookings.

Be clear about fit. MoveBooth does no printing, so a wedding or party business that sells prints should budget for a different app and a printer. The equipment checklist covers the parts in detail.
