MoveBooth vs dslrBooth: first, what dslrBooth is now

dslrBooth is no longer presented as a separate product. The dslrbooth.com site now sells it as LumaBooth for Windows, alongside LumaBooth versions for Apple devices and Android. When this page says dslrBooth, it means that Windows edition.

So the comparison is between two different kinds of booth. One is a Windows computer tethered to a dedicated camera, usually with a printer. The other is a single iPad on a stand that takes the photo with its own camera and asks for the guest's details. We compared the iPad edition separately in MoveBooth vs LumaBooth.

We have not tested either setup. The facts come from each vendor's site.

Cost of the software on each side

Prices are US dollars as read on 3 October 2026. Check the vendors' pages before buying, since prices move.

  • dslrBooth (LumaBooth for Windows): $17 per month billed annually, first two devices included.
  • dslrBooth month to month: $49.99 per month, nearly three times the annual rate.
  • MoveBooth Lite: $49.99 per month or $499.99 per year, one active iPad, no lead capture.
  • MoveBooth Plus: $149.99 per month or $1,499.99 per year, lead capture and CSV download.
  • MoveBooth Pro: $249.99 per month or $2,499.99 per year.
  • MoveBooth kiosk hardware: $2,499 one time, iPad not included; optional, since the app works on any iPad with any stand.

Camera and image quality: what the vendors state

We cannot give a test result on image quality, because we have not shot with either product. What can be said is what each one connects to.

dslrBooth lists Canon, Nikon and Sony cameras, GoPro and webcams on Windows. An operator who has already invested in a camera body, lens and flash can keep using them.

MoveBooth uses the iPad camera. Its maker states that MoveBooth does not support DSLR. The kiosk it sells adds a dimmable LED ring light around the iPad, which addresses lighting, not the sensor.

If a client specifies studio-style output from a dedicated camera, MoveBooth cannot meet that brief.

Printing, capture modes and extras

dslrBooth's home page says you create a print layout in a built-in designer and print directly from the app. Its listed modes include photo, video, GIF, slow-mo, 360, boomerang, mirror booth, green screen and video guestbook.

MoveBooth lists still photos, GIFs and boomerangs on all plans. It has no printing or print layouts, no green screen and no 360. Image styles are limited to normal, black and white, or a 3D glitch style.

Sharing differs too. dslrBooth lists email, SMS, QR code, Instagram, WhatsApp and AirDrop. MoveBooth lists email and SMS with an online gallery for each event.

Setup effort and lead capture

A Windows camera booth has more parts: computer, camera, tether cable, lighting and usually a printer. Our list of photo booth equipment walks through them. An iPad booth has fewer. MoveBooth says its own stand assembles in about 5 minutes, which is a vendor claim we have not checked. Its app is installed through Apple's TestFlight with a link from the team, since it is not on the public App Store.

Lead capture is where MoveBooth has something specific to offer. Plus collects name, email and phone, Pro adds ZIP code and date of birth, and the list downloads as CSV. There are no native CRM integrations. We did not find surveys or data capture stated on the dslrbooth.com pricing or home page, so ask the vendor if you need it. No independent reviews of MoveBooth were found.

Who should choose dslrBooth and who should choose MoveBooth

The right answer depends on kit you own and what the client is paying for.

  • Choose dslrBooth if you own a Canon, Nikon or Sony camera and a Windows PC and want to keep using them.
  • Choose dslrBooth if guests expect printed strips, green screen, video or 360.
  • Choose dslrBooth on annual billing if you want the lowest software cost; month to month costs the same as MoveBooth Lite.
  • Choose MoveBooth if you want to carry one iPad and a stand into an exhibition hall and come out with contacts.
  • Choose MoveBooth if no one at the event needs a print. Our iPad booth setup guide shows the general steps.
