Photo booth app offline: two different meanings
Vendors use the word offline for two different things. One is capture and queue: the booth keeps taking photos with no connection and sends them later. The other is fully local: photos and data stay on the device and guests still get their picture with no internet at all.
The difference matters. With a queue, guests leave without their photo and receive it when the booth reconnects. This page reports only what each vendor's own documentation states, read on 3 October 2026. No app was run in a venue without Wi-Fi for this guide.
What each vendor states
Where a vendor's page says nothing, that is noted instead of assumed.
- Breeze Booth: says it can be configured to run 100% offline with no personal data or images sent to third parties, and that all data can be stored locally on the device.
- Touchpix: describes built-in internet-free sharing for iOS and Android devices, and automatic background removal offline.
- Snappic: describes built-in offline queue management so events keep running without Wi-Fi.
- MoveBooth: lists offline mode on all plans. Content captured offline syncs and sends once connectivity is restored.
- Simple Booth: offline use is not stated on the pricing page read.
- LumaBooth: offline use is not stated on the home or pricing pages read.
MoveBooth's offline limits
MoveBooth's offline mode is a queue, not local delivery. Its photos reach guests by email or SMS through a web link, so a guest at an offline booth waits until the iPad reconnects.
Two documented conditions apply. First, the help center says the booth must be connected to the internet before any delay or drop for offline mode to work. In practice that means opening the app and loading the event while you still have a connection. Second, switching channels on the iPad requires working internet, so you cannot change to a different event setup mid-venue without a signal. Since each channel has one capture mode, a plan that relies on switching modes also relies on a connection.
The app comes through TestFlight, and builds can expire and need a manual update over Wi-Fi. Open it before you travel. More on plan features is in the MoveBooth features guide.
Printing without internet
Printing is a separate question from sharing. A printer on a local network or a cable does not, in principle, need the internet. None of the vendor pages read for this guide states outright that printing works with no connection, so confirm it with the vendor and test it. Among the apps that print, Breeze Booth's 100% offline wording is the closest to a direct answer. MoveBooth is out of this question entirely because it does not print.
How to prepare for a venue with no signal
These steps apply to any app.
- Log in, load the event and take a test photo before you leave a place with good internet.
- Ask the venue about Wi-Fi in advance and bring a phone hotspot as a fallback.
- Turn off features that need the cloud if your app allows it.
- Tell guests when to expect their photo if delivery is queued.
- Reconnect after the event and confirm the queue has emptied before you close the app.
Which app to pick for unreliable venues
If guests must get photos on the spot with no internet, Breeze Booth and Touchpix make the strongest written claims. If delayed delivery is fine and you want contact capture, MoveBooth's queue covers it within the limits above. Whichever you choose, rehearse by switching the Wi-Fi off after the event has loaded.
